Research (Look Ups) carried out for Members of the Caithness FHS

The following research can now be carried out for members of the Society by a group of volunteers who are themselves members. Research will be strictly limited and carried out in rotation. Unfortunately, detailed research, family tree construction and lengthy research cannot be carried out. Look- ups will be carried out at the discretion of the Research Coordinator and the volunteer. Charges and services may be reviewed from time to time.

As look-ups are carried out by a small team of volunteers, work cannot be completed to a timescale, therefore please be patient!. Certificate transcriptions (post-1855) require a visit to the local registrar’s office and will be carried out once there are sufficient numbers of transcriptions needed. When asking for Census look-ups, members should note that indexes are not available for all years, therefore area searches cannot be carried out - the location must be given. This is especially true for large areas and common surnames.

Payment should be made in advance and made payable to the Caithness FHS (not an individual member). Any amount in excess of that used will be held on account for the member until such time as it is required. Finally research requests should be submitted on the appropriate form, available to download here. We ask that you only submit one enquiry at a time.
